Richard Walters
Environmental Action Programme Manager

I have worked for Groundwork for 4 years now, firstly running the Environmental Action (EA) programme in Neath Port Talbot (NPT) with Objective 1 funding, and now currently running the EA programme in Bridgend and the Community Gateways Programme in NPT, both funded through the Rural Development Plan (RDP) programme. I line manager the project officers who are on hand to work with community groups to deliver environmental projects. I deal with the paperwork side of the 2 programmes dealing with the local authorities and the Welsh Assembly Government.
Background
I have worked in the voluntary sector since leaving university, with a BSc in Geography, in 1998. I started off as a volunteer, progressed to a team leader taking out teams of volunteers and work placements, before becoming a Volunteer Co-ordinator with a community association in Gilfach Goch. Before joining Groundwork in 2005 I was a Community Development Officer with the same community association.
I play football for my local side, when not injured, and enjoy running and the gym. I spend a lot of time running after my 3 kids, all under 6, and tending to my vegetable patch in the garden – not that much seems to grow!!
